CASA NM – Milan

Milan, 2023 – Completed
Type: Apartment renovation in a historic building
Total area: 70 sqm

Located in an elegant ballatoio-style building, typical of 19th-century Milan, this apartment opens onto a quiet and private inner courtyard. The shared balcony that runs along the perimeter of the courtyard offers a direct connection to the outdoors without compromising privacy, lending the setting a timeless charm.

Inside, the 70-square-meter apartment reveals itself as a corner of elegance and functionality, designed for a young, dynamic, and passionate newlywed couple.
The project plays on the contrast between modernity and tradition: the kitchen blends seamlessly into the wall, almost disappearing, while the furnishings — full of character — tell stories of time and passion. Reclaimed elements, such as inherited furniture and unique finds from Sunday markets, enrich the space with sentimental value and reflect a deep attention to detail and beauty.

With dual exposure and natural light flowing in from every corner, the apartment feels like a refined retreat that balances elegance and practicality. The beige walls, uniform throughout the home, create a sense of continuity and harmony while highlighting the apartment’s original architectural features, such as the historic boiserie, solid wood double doors, and ceiling moldings. The light oak herringbone parquet flooring adds natural warmth, enhancing the bright and welcoming atmosphere.

Every centimeter of space has been thoughtfully designed to optimize livability;
the bathroom stands out for its refined functionality, featuring gres niches in the shower, an integrated laundry area, and a countertop basin on a gres surface — all details conceived to elevate the beauty of simplicity and materials.
A custom-designed mezzanine and storage space make smart use of every corner, eliminating unnecessary hallways and dead space.

The couple, lovers of clothing and accessories, wanted a well-organized and practical space, free from the clutter of bulky wardrobes. A walk-through wardrobe was created, accessible through two elegant arches behind the headboard, optimizing the space with style and defining an area dedicated entirely to dressing.

A small apartment, yes — but one that tells a story of passion, elegance, and love for detail.
